Service dogs are amazing animals that do so much good for their person. When you see a service dog in public, please be mindful of the following information:
Do not pet or touch a service dog.
Even if the dog does not look like it is working, please do not pet.
Do not talk to the service dog.
Always speak to the person and not the service dog.
Never feed the service dog food or treats.
A service dog has a specific task to do for one person and should never be distracted.
Be mindful that some individuals may have an invisible disease and not look sick…be respectful of the person’s privacy.
In accordance with the American’s with Disabilities Act, a service dog is allowed everywhere except a sterile operating room.
Hotels cannot charge a person with a service dog additional fees or rates (unless the dog damages property).
Restaurants and stores must allow a service dog to enter. If the manager or owner argues, the service dog handler can call 311 for help.
